World’s Largest Photograph and Camera

The Great Picture—the world’s largest photograph—held its premier showing September 6 to 29, 2007 at Art Center College of Design, South Campus Wind Tunnel, Pasadena, California.

The Great Picture was created over the nine months leading up to July 2006 by six well-known photographic artists (Jerry Burchfield, March Chamberlain, Jacques Garnier, Rob Johnson, Douglas McCulloh, Clayton Spada) collectively known as The Legacy Project, aided by 400 volunteers, artists, and experts. Working in their jet-hangar-transformed-into-camera, the group hand-applied 80 liters of gelatin silver halide emulsion to a seamless 3,375-square-foot canvas substrate custom-made in Germany. Development was done in a custom Olympic pool-sized developing tray using ten high volume submersible pumps and 1,800 gallons of black and white chemistry. The premier exhibition at Art Center College of Design, South Campus, will feature The Great Picture along with videos and photographs in an environment designed to re-create the dramatic atmosphere within the jet-hangar-as-camera where the giant photograph was made.

Human Tower

A human tower or a castel is traditionally built during festivals in many places in Catalonia, Spain. Several teams organized to build the most impressive towers they can. The succes of building human tower is when members has climbed into their place up to the enxaneta or the last person at the top of the tower and raising one had with four fingers erect which symbolize the stripes of the Catalan Flag. Climbs down the other side of the castell, and then everyone else comes down safely.

Many people also needed to form the base of the castell or the so called "pinya". They help sustain the weight of the tower for the safety of the climbers.

Most of the teams uniform are consists of white trousers, colored shirt bearing the team's logo, black sash and bandana. During castellers performance, they go barefooted to avoid hurting each other when climbming.

One of the most and well know events is during Mid-September in celebration of de La Virgen de la Salud Fiesta or the Virgin of Good Health - a well known events in Valencia which incorporates the Human Pyramid Festival.

Sony Alpha A350

The Alpha A350 is Sony's next step forward into the consumer digital SLR market, and it marches right alongside its brother Alpha A300. The A350 offers a 14.2-megapixel sensor in contrast to the A300's 10.2, but otherwise the cameras are nearly identical. The big news here is the implementation of a Quick AF Live View system, which allows users to frame shots using the tilting 2.7-inch LCD screen. Otherwise the camera is pretty much par for the course when it comes to consumer dSLRs, offering now-standard features like a dust-shake system and in-body image stabilization. The body accepts all Sony and Minolta A-type bayonet mount lenses, and so is a great first dSLR for someone who has access to an older Minolta film camera.
